Success Stories

The value of the Carolinas-Virginia MSDC is reflected in the success of our members and minority businesses.

From the office of the Vice President of Corporate and MBE Development

Priscilla Wallace

The Charlotte Minority Economic Development Initiative (CMEDI) has officially launched Phase II of its 18-month program to expand the footprint of minority business in the Greater Charlotte area. This program cultivates relationships between corporations and minority businesses while generating economic opportunities and professional development. As a result of the partnership between the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council, this program has demonstrated

economic impact for our communities. We completed CMEDI Phase I, at the end of 2012 with very good results! The impact was clearly evident that this program was a success with over 295 employment opportunities, and MBE reported contract awards of $12.8MM. Over the last two and a half months, CMEDI Phase II has reported $3.3MM in contract awards from CMEDI corporations to our minority business enterprises in the program.
Through our corporate partnerships, we offer seminars, educational forums and networking events to educate minority businesses on valuable tools such as: contract negotiations, the implementation of best practices, business plans, and economic sustainability. The initiative creates positive impact for participating corporations by supporting supplier diversity initiatives, best practices; spend analysis and tracking, and educational training.
